Hil van der Waal, Dutch-born, currently living between Amsterdam, The Netherlands, and France.. He gained his ARPS distinction at the Royal Photography Society in 2011, and was finalist of the Documentary Photographer of the Year competition of the RPS in 2019. He is also a member of the Photographic Society of Oman. Travelled a lot, and lived in various countries in the world. He has immersed himself in communities like semi-nomadic tribal life in remote Borneo, Bedouins in Oman’s desert, Buddhist temple life in NorthEast Thailand, family life behind the walls of a traditional Moroccan village, small scale farm life in Scotland, areas with labourers in India, or aboard a wooden dow with Iranian seafarers in Dubai’s Creek. Hil is also a keen landscape and street photographer. He shoots both digital, and Medium Format analogue. Hil van der Waal organises photo workshops for beginners and advanced in the French Dordogne.
