Camel Ardha
Camel Ardah, a show festival in the Sultanate of Oman
These images are made during several camel race events of four days in a row, from 2016 - 2019, that were held in Al Fulaij, a remote camel race track in the region of Barka, Oman. Camel racing is a frequent event in different parts of Oman. The various tribal communities, most of them Bedu, of the Sultanate meet regularly, bring their camels and participate in this particulair race, rather a show, the 'Camel Ardah'. The main purpose of Ardah is to show the beauty and strength of the Arabian camels and the riders' skills. In this fast changing modern country, the Omani Government encourages the old tradition by making available large cash prizes for winners.
